Trooper Injured in 3-Vehicle Crash on North Lamar Boulevard and West Guadalupe Street in Austin
Austin, Texas (May 11, 2018) – A Department of Public Safety trooper was injured in a three-car accident in Austin Wednesday night, according to a local news report.
The collision occurred at about 9:18 p.m. Wednesday, May 9 at the intersection of North Lamar Boulevard and W. Guadalupe Street near the Triangle.
According to a witness, a driver, identified as 25-year-old Cruz Sainz, was driving a 2007 Chevy Malibu southbound on North Lamar Boulevard at a high rate of speed when he lost control of his vehicle and collided head-on with a Department of Public Safety Trooper’s SUV that was stopped at a red light.
The crash caused the trooper’s SUV to slam into the vehicle behind it, described as a 2012 White Mitsubishi Galant.
As per the report, the trooper was waiting at a red light when he was pushed back around 30 feet by the suspected drunken driver.
Witness said Sainz attempted to run away from the scene without checking on the trooper, but police arrested him.
The trooper sustained a Saggital Ligament Tear to his right ring finger and was taken to Dell Seton Medical Center for treatment.
Sainz was charged with intoxication assault, failure to stop and render aid and crash causing bodily injury.
The cause of the crash is under investigation.

We understand this is a difficult time for the family of those affected by a tragic accident, and we offer our sincere sympathies. While the thought of hiring a law firm may not feel appropriate at this time, as a public service we like to advise that in some cases it may be important to immediately begin securing evidence (such as photos of skid marks and property damage) and witness statements before it’s too late.
