The fatal crash occurred just before 12:30 a.m. January 1, on West Poplar and NW 26th Street.

Police said a minivan, occupied by four people, was backing out of a driveway when it was hit by a speeding pickup truck, which then took out a utility pole and some power lines, knocking out the power in the nearby homes.

A 14-year-old female passenger was ejected from the van as it spun, and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The van caught fire after the crash.

Two children inside the van, a 5-year-old boy and a 1-year-old girl, were taken to University Hospital with second-degree burns.

Two people in the truck fled the scene. The driver, Cesar Eduardo Gonzalez, 18, was later arrested.

The police are investigating the crash.
