Houston, TX – A 42-year-old woman was killed Tuesday morning in a two-vehicle collision in NW Houston, according to the authorities.
The fatal collision happened on February 24 at the intersection of Clay Road and Sam Houston Toll Road.
Authorities said 42-year-old Lakethia Montgomery was driving a Mitsubishi Mirage and was stopped at the red light. When the light turned green, she turned to travel eastbound on Clay Road.
Manuel Neri Mendoza, 37, from Mexico, was driving a Chevrolet 2500 on Sam Houston Toll Road when he ran a red light and hit the Mitsubishi.
The force of the impact pushed the Mitsubishi through the intersection, and it stopped at a nearby curb.
Mendoza tried to leave the scene, but officers found him nearby.
Montgomery was pronounced dead at the scene. A 3-year-old boy in her vehicle was uninjured in the accident.
Mendoza was facing a murder charge. He showed signs of intoxication at the scene and had a significant history of alcohol-related offenses. He was being held on an ICE detainer and was being held at the Harris County Jail.
The collision remains under investigation.
