John Pillow ID’d as Man Killed in Cleveland Car Crash on State Highway 105
Cleveland, Texas (December 7, 2018) – Authorities have identified the man who was killed last month a head-on collision in Cleveland as John Wesley Pillow, 39, of Cleveland.
At about 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 28, the Cleveland Police Department officials received a report regarding a two-vehicle crash on State Highway 105 bypass.
According to witnesses, Pillow was driving a red 2012 Chevrolet pickup truck eastbound on State Highway 105 bypass when for unknown reasons his vehicle drifted into the westbound lane and hit an 18-wheeler truck on the front left fender and cab.
Witnesses reported that the force of the impact sent the pickup truck’s engine flying into the air and landing approximately 20-yards away down an embankment.
The 18-wheeler, which was hauling a trailer with a huge load, caught fire after the impact.
Fire crews responded to the scene and tried to extinguish the flames coming from the rig. Pillow, who was the sole occupant of the red truck, was trapped in the wrecked vehicle. He died at the scene.
The driver of the 18-wheeler was able to escape the burning cab immediately.
Hazmat clean-up crews closed the road for about eight hours while working at the scene. As of 9:00 p.m. the bypass was reopened.
The Texas Department of Public Safety troopers and the Cleveland Police Department are investigating the accident.
As per the reports, the Chevrolet pickup truck driven by Pillow was later confirmed to be stolen out of the State of Florida.
