Henderson Man Manuela Mata Dies in Rusk County Accident on Highway 64

Rusk County,Texas (October 9, 2018) – A man was killed in a fatal head-on collision on Saturday night in Rusk County, according to the DPS.
The crash took place just after 8:30 p.m. October 6 on Highway 64 , approximately 8 miles west of Henderson.
DPS said a vehicle traveling eastbound on Highway 64 was disabled and was parked at the side of the highway. Another driver also pulled over to assist the stranded driver.
36-year-old Manuela Mata of Henderson was driving a 2002 Chevrolet Trailblazer eastbound on the highway when he passed the stopped vehicles and swerved into the westbound side. The Chevrolet collided with an oncoming 2007 Chevrolet Avalanche driven by Christopher Potts, 39, of Henderson.
Mata died at the scene of the crash.
Potts sustained serious injuries and was transported to UT Health for treatment.
The DPS is investigating the crash.
