Cornelio Schmidt Killed in Head-On Crash on U.S. 380 in Yoakum County
Yoakum County, Texas (May 15, 2018) – One person was killed in a fatal head-on collision on Tuesday morning in Yoakum County, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.
The wreck happened at around 8:40 a.m. on U.S. 380, approximately one mile west of FM 1780.
DPS said Cornelio Krahn Schmidt, 39, of Seminole, was driving a Chevy pickup eastbound on U.S. 380 when one of the tires came off and caused her to lose control.
The pickup collided with an oncoming Dodge Ram pickup, driven by David Harder, 33, of Brownfield.
Schmidt died at the scene of the crash.
A passenger in harder’s truck, a five-year-old boy, was taken to a hospital with incapacitating injuries.
No other injuries were reported from the crash.
We extend our sincere condolences to the family and friends of the deceased.

The information for this blog post was obtained from public media and is for informational purposes. No attorney-client relationship is established unless the law firm is formally retained. We understand this is a difficult time for the family of those affected by a tragic accident, and we offer our sincere sympathies. While the thought of hiring a law firm may not feel appropriate at this time, as a public service we like to advise that in some cases it may be important to immediately begin securing evidence (such as photos of skid marks and property damage) and witness statements before it’s too late.
