Man Killed in San Antonio Bicycle Crash at Somerset Road and La Violeta Street

San Antonio, Texas (May 12, 2018) – A bicyclist was hit and killed by an SAPD patrol vehicle late Friday night on the South Side, according to the San Antonio Police Department.
The incident occurred at about 11:45 p.m. May 11 at the intersection of Somerset Road and La Violeta Street near South San High School.
Officials said two patrol vehicles were traveling southbound on Somerset Road when one of them struck the bicyclist at the intersection. Witnesses reported that the rider allegedly failed to stop for a red light and entered into the intersection.
The officers did not have their lights or sirens on at the time of the accident.
The victim, who was only identified as a man in his 60s, was killed in the accident.
The incident is under investigation.
