Houston, Texas (February 20, 2018) – An 18-year-old woman was hit and killed by a vehicle on Saturday night in Houston, according to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.
The auto-pedestrian accident occurred at around 10 p.m. Saturday, February 18, in the 12000 block of Veterans Memorial Drive, north of the Sam Houston Parkway.
Deputies said Brenda Mandieta, 18, and her 17-year-old friend were both trying to cross the street and were not using a crosswalk when they were hit by a car.
Both pedestrians were rushed to Memorial Hermann Hospital in the woodlands, where Mandieta was pronounced dead. The 17-year-old friend was treated for minor injuries.
Deputies said intoxication was unlikely a factor.
The Harris County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the crash.

The information for this blog post was obtained from public media and is for informational purposes.  No attorney-client relationship is established unless the law firm is formally retained. We understand this is a difficult time for the family of those affected by a tragic accident, and we offer our sincere sympathies.  While the thought of hiring a law firm may not feel appropriate at this time, as a public service we like to advise that in some cases it may be important to immediately begin securing evidence (such as photos of skid marks and property damage) and witness statements before it’s too late.
