Central Austin, Texas (February 15, 2018) – The man who died Friday after he was hit by a car has been identified as Timothy Boykin, 46, according to the authorities.
Boykin was traveling north on his moped when he was struck by a Jeep, driven by 21-year-old Olivia Gruwell, at the Luther Lane and Red River Street in Central Austin at about 3 a.m. Friday, February 9.
Police said Gruwell was also driving her Jeep northbound on Red River Street when she reportedly hit the moped from behind.
Police said Boykin succumbed to injuries and was pronounced dead at about 3:14 a.m.
Gruwell was not at the crash scene when officers arrived. Debris from the crash and trail marks led the police to a home at East 37th Street, just a few blocks from the crash scene where they found Gruwell’s Jeep with blood splatter on the front.
Police said Gruwell admitted having taken six to nine alcoholic drinks at various bars in Austin before driving home. She was later arrested.
No further information regarding the crash was immediately provided.

The information for this blog post was obtained from public media and is for informational purposes.  No attorney-client relationship is established unless the law firm is formally retained. We understand this is a difficult time for the family of those affected by a tragic accident, and we offer our sincere sympathies.  While the thought of hiring a law firm may not feel appropriate at this time, as a public service we like to advise that in some cases it may be important to immediately begin securing evidence (such as photos of skid marks and property damage) and witness statements before it’s too late.
