Sicily Payne, James Winford Injured in 2-Vehicle at Highway 87 and FM 41 in Lubbock

Lubbock, Texas (May 16, 2018) – Two drivers were injured in a two-vehicle accident in Lubbock Monday morning, authorities said.
The crash took place at around 10:00 a.m. Monday, May 14 just north of the intersection of Highway 87 and FM 41.
According to the authorities, Sicily Payne, 41, of Lubbock, was driving a 2007 Chevy passenger vehicle eastbound on FM 41 when she failed to yield the right of way when crossing U.S. 87.
A northbound Peterbilt truck tractor towing a tanker trailer hit the Chevy and flipped in the northbound traffic lane. The Chevy spun and came to a rest in the center median.
Payne was transported to an area hospital and was last listed Monday evening to be in critical but stable condition.
The driver of the truck tractor, James Winford, 71, of Lamesa, was transported to a Lubbock hospital with unspecified injuries but was said to be alert and communicating.
The Texas Department of Transportation along with Lubbock law enforcement and Lubbock Fire Rescue responded to the scene.
Precautions were taken when disposing of the debris, as the truck tractor was carrying propane tanks, none of which were reported to be punctured or leaking.
No further details regarding the crash were available.
An investigation into the crash is ongoing.

The information for this blog post was obtained from public media and is for informational purposes.  No attorney-client relationship is established unless the law firm is formally retained. We understand this is a difficult time for the family of those affected by a tragic accident, and we offer our sincere sympathies.  While the thought of hiring a law firm may not feel appropriate at this time, as a public service we like to advise that in some cases it may be important to immediately begin securing evidence (such as photos of skid marks and property damage) and witness statements before it’s too late.
