Payton Crustner Killed, Marcus Dukes and Miranda Clark Injured in Crash on FM-225 in Rusk County

Rusk County, Texas (August 29, 2018) – A child was killed Tuesday morning in a two-vehicle collision which also injured four other people in Rusk County, according to a local news release.
The crash was reported just after 7:00 a.m. August 28, on Farm-to-Market Road 225, just south of the city of Henderson, five miles north of Laneville.
According to preliminary reports, a 2016 GMC Sierra pickup driven by Marcus Wayne Dukes, 18, of Laneville, was heading northbound on FM-225 entering a right curve. At the same time, Miranda Michelle Clark, 32, of Laneville, was driving a 2017 Nissan Sentra southbound approaching the GMC in the curve.
Dukes swerved for an unknown reason, to the left, and into the oncoming traffic lane. This caused Clark to veer to the left and into oncoming traffic in an attempt to avoid the oncoming truck.
The front right of the pickup hit the Sentra and rotated backward off the roadway. It came to a rest in a field facing east.
The impact caused the Sentra to rotate clockwise and come to a rest partially off the roadway and in the northbound lane of FM-225.
Dukes, who didn’t have his seatbelt on at the time of the accident, was taken to UT Health in Henderson where he was treated and released.
Clark was wearing a seatbelt and was taken on Christus Trinity Mother Francis in Tyler, where she was treated and released. Clark’s passenger, a 16-year-old boy, was taken to Christus Trinity Mother Francis in Tyler where he was listed in critical condition. Another passenger, Payton Lynn Crustner, 9, of Laneville, was declared dead at the scene.
A 3-year-old female passenger was taken to Christus Trinity Mother Francis-Tyler where she was treated and released.
The crash remains under investigation.
