Mckinney Man and Van Alstyne Woman Killed in El Paso Crash on Interstate 10 East near Americas Avenue

El Paso, Texas (December 22, 2017) – According to a police report, a man and a woman were killed following a multi-vehicle collision early Thursday morning in El Paso.
The deadly crash took place at about 2:22 a.m. Thursday, December 21, on I-10 East between Americas Avenue and Eastlake Boulevard, El Paso.
Police said that a preliminary investigation found that a construction vehicle which had a protruding conveyer belt was parked in the center median between I-10 East and I-10 West. The conveyor arm was protruding 4 feet into the I-10 East inside lane.
The conveyor belt was hit by a red 2016 Peterbilt semi, and a silver 2007 Walk Tanker trailer both registered in Missouri which were driven eastbound on the inside lane.
The collision destroyed the driver’s side mirror of each vehicle and both drivers pulled over and exited their damaged vehicles, police said.
After an initial collision, a red 2017 Freightliner semi and a white 2018 Great Dane trailer registered in Oklahoma were both headed east on the inside lane. The two vehicles also struck the conveyor arm. The collision caused the conveyor to pierce the Freightliner’s cab hitting the 24-year-old driver of the Freightliner and pushing him into the back of the cab. The conveyor arm then ripped apart the sleeper berth of the cab, causing passenger, Keserie Paredes of Van Alstyne, Texas, who was sitting at the back to be ejected.
The Freightliner and Great Dane trailer continued traveling east when they struck a black 2011 Jeep Compass registered in Texas pushing the Compass into the 2007 Walk Tanker trailer, as per the report.
The driver of the Freightliner rolled out of the vehicle and onto the roadway during the collision, police said.
As per officials, the driver, identified as Patrick Charles Van Fossen of McKinney, Texas, and Paredes sustained serious injuries and were declared dead at the accident scene.
I-10 East remained shut for several hours and reportedly reopened at about 11:50 a.m.
An investigation into the crash remains underway.
