Shelby County, Texas (September 12, 2018) – A person was killed and two others were injured Tuesday evening in a two-vehicle collision in Shelby County, according to a local news source.
The collision was reported just before 6:00 p.m. September 11, at the intersection of US 96 and County Road 4356
DPS said Derek Lampkin, 51, of Lufkin, was driving a semi and failed to stop at the intersection. The semi then rear-ended a car which was stopped waiting to make a turn onto the County Road.
The impact caused the tractor-trailer to overturn.
Lufkin was transported to the hospital where he was treated and released.
The car driver, Magdiel Cruz, 38, of Teneha, was uninjured in the crash.
Natibida Ramirez, 41, who was a passenger in the car, died at the scene.
A second passenger, a 14-year-old boy, suffered serious injuries and was transported to a Nacogdoches hospital for treatment.
An investigation is ongoing.
