Melanie Mason Fatally Struck After Alighting from Bus near State Highway 249 and Antoine Drive

Houston, Texas (November 9, 2017) – According to deputies, a woman was fatally struck by a car late Wednesday night while crossing a highway in northwest Harris County.
The deadly crash took place at about 10 p.m. Wednesday, November 8, near the intersection of State Highway 249 and Antoine Drive.
According to Harris County deputies, Melanie Mason had just alighted from a bus, crossed Antoine then attempted to walk across Texas 249 against a traffic light into the path of a Toyota 4Runner when she was struck by the 4Runner which was going northbound on Texas 249.
Mason was pronounced dead at the accident scene, authorities said.
According to a report, witnesses said the driver was traveling at the speed limit and the victim was using her cell phone when the collision occurred. The report said the woman walked into oncoming traffic.
