Man Killed in Big Rig Crash on 1-35 in Austin
Austin, Texas (October 3, 2018) – A man in his 30s was killed early Wednesday morning in a two-vehicle crash involving an 18-wheeler in Austin, according to a local news source.
The fatal crash happened at about 12:30 a.m. on Interstate 35 near Manor Road.
According to the Austin police, a speeding gray Toyota Avalon driven by a man got onto Interstate 35, and the driver was not aware that traffic was stopped because of an earlier crash. The driver came up quickly on the tractor-trailer and attempted to change lanes to avoid the truck, but there was already a vehicle there.
The Avalon swerved back into the southbound lanes and collided with the big rig.
Austin-Travis County EMS responded to the scene and declared the man dead.
The crash closed the southbound lower deck of Interstate 35 backing up traffic for hours.
All lanes were reopened by 4:00 a.m.
The crash remains under investigation.
