David Arredondo Struck, Killed by Vehicle at Somerset Road and La Violeta Street in San Antonio

San Antonio, Texas (May 13, 2018) – The man who was struck and killed by a San Antonio Police Department cruiser late Friday night has been identified as David Arredondo, 69, authorities said.
The deadly accident happened at about 11:45 p.m. Friday, May 11 at the intersection of Somerset Road and La Violeta Street near South San High School. Two SAPD officers were responding to a report for loud music.
SAPD officials said a witness saw the man, Arredondo, disregarding a stop sign at the intersection before the oncoming patrol unit hit him.
Officials said the officers were in separate marked patrol units operating southbound on Somerset Road when the first officer drove through the intersection and did not saw anybody in the street.
The second officer approached the intersection and struck Arredondo, SAPD officials said.
The officer, who has been with the department for four years, said he did not see the bicyclist until after striking him, officials said.
The bicyclist who was not struck showed signs of being intoxicated, according to police.
The officers were not responding with their sirens and lights due to the accident not being an emergency response call.
Arredondo was declared deceased at the scene.
Detectives with the Traffic department are investigating the cause of the crash.
We extend our sincere condolences to the family and friends of the deceased.

The information for this blog post was obtained from public media and is for informational purposes.  No attorney-client relationship is established unless the law firm is formally retained. We understand this is a difficult time for the family of those affected by a tragic accident, and we offer our sincere sympathies.  While the thought of hiring a law firm may not feel appropriate at this time, as a public service we like to advise that in some cases it may be important to immediately begin securing evidence (such as photos of skid marks and property damage) and witness statements before it’s too late.
