Cheryl Kelly Dies after Motorcycle Accident on Decker Lane in Austin
Austin, Texas (June 16, 2018) – The woman who was critically injured when the motorcycle she was riding collided with another bike during last weekend’s Republic of Texas(ROT) rally has died, police said.
The deadly accident took place at about 10:22 p.m. Saturday, June 9 in the 7800 block of Decker Lane, near the Travis Expo Center.
According to the police, a black Harley-Davidson motorcycle was heading northbound on the inside lane on Decker Lane in the same direction as an orange Harley bike.
The driver of the orange Harley then slowed to make a U-turn when it was hit from behind by the black Harley.
The black motorcycle driver was transported to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries. But his passenger, Cheryl Kelly, 56, was taken to Dell Seton Medical Center with critical injuries. She succumbed to her injuries three days later on Tuesday, June 12, and was declared dead at 3:43 p.m.
Alcohol and drugs were not factors in the crash.
An investigation into the accident is underway.
We extend our sincere condolences to the family and friends of the deceased.

The information for this blog post was obtained from public media and is for informational purposes. No attorney-client relationship is established unless the law firm is formally retained. We understand this is a difficult time for the family of those affected by a tragic accident, and we offer our sincere sympathies. While the thought of hiring a law firm may not feel appropriate at this time, as a public service we like to advise that in some cases it may be important to immediately begin securing evidence (such as photos of skid marks and property damage) and witness statements before it’s too late.
