10-Year-Old Killed in Two-Vehicle Crash on SH 153 in Taylor County
Taylor County, Texas – A 10-year-old child was killed and nine other people were injured early Thursday morning in a two-vehicle crash in Taylor County, according to the Texas DPS.
The fatal crash happened on June 6, on State Highway 153, about 30 miles south of Sweetwater.
DPS said Antonio Munoz of San Antonio, was driving an SUV towing a trailer northbound on the highway while Brady Bill Lewis, 42, of Lubbock, was driving a pickup truck southbound.
Munoz drifted off the northbound side of the highway and into the barrow ditch. He overcorrected, steered left back toward the roadway, and traveled into the southbound lane in a side skid.
Lewis was just coming over a hill on the road and collided with the SUV in the southbound lane.
A 10-year-old child, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected from the SUV and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Munoz was taken to Hendrick Medical Center – North with non-incapacitating injuries. A 37-year-old passenger, Nakud Torres, of San Antonio, was also taken to Hendrick-North with incapacitating injuries and was listed in stable condition.
A 17-year-old and a 9-year-old were taken to Cook Children’s Hospital for treatment. They were not wearing their seatbelts.
Lewis and his passengers, Jessica Ann Davis, 39, of Lubbock, and three children, ages 8, 5, and 14, were taken to Hendrick-North with incapacitating injuries and were listed in stable condition.
The DPS is investigating the crash.
