A crash involving three vehicles happened at Elm Creek at about 1:28 p.m and later the second incident involving seven vehicles took place near California Street.
Traffic was moving slowly along I-35 due to the initial incidents when the driver of a red Ford F-350 Super Duty King Ranch truck was traveling at a relatively high rate of speed and crashed into the back of a semi-trailer transporting meat products, DPS said.
The driver of the Ford was pronounced deceased at the scene of the crash.
