Merkel, TX. – One person was killed in a collision involving two vehicles in Merkel on Thursday evening, according to the authorities.
The accident took place on westbound Interstate 20 at mile marker 271 at about 6:00 p.m. December 12.
Authorities said a truck operated by a subcontractor for TxDOT was involved in the collision with a minivan.
Following the accident, the minivan burst into flames while the truck rolled onto its side.
One occupant of the minivan was killed in the wreck.
The westbound side of I-20 was shut down in the area as authorities investigated the incident.
The investigation is ongoing.
