Child Dies in Lubbock Collision at 43rd Street and Quaker Avenue

Lubbock, Texas (February 15, 2018) — An 18-month-old child was killed after he was hit by a vehicle in Lubbock Tuesday night, according to Lubbock Police Department.
The accident took place at around 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 13, at the corner of 43rd Street and Quaker Avenue in Lubbock.
The Lubbock police stated that a man drove to a residence off the corner of 43rd Street and Quaker Avenue, parked along the side of the road and shortly after, returned to the vehicle and attempted to drive away when he struck Damian Mendoza.
Mendoza suffered critical injuries and was taken to a hospital by EMS where he later succumbed to his injuries.
No citations have been issued in the wreck, police said.
An investigation into the crash remained underway.
