Sheriff’s Deputy Injured in Hit-and-Run Crash with Alleged DUI Driver on I-35E in Dallas

Dallas, Texas (February 5, 2018) – A sheriff’s deputy was injured when a suspected DUI driver caused a multi-vehicle accident early Saturday morning in Dallas County, according to authorities.
The accident occurred shortly after 2:15 a.m. on southbound Interstate 35E and Walnut Hill.
The deputy was reportedly assisting a driver whose vehicle had broken down. A tow truck had been called to the scene and was attempting to lift the disabled vehicle when a Mercedes SUV slammed into the tow truck and the disabled vehicle.
The Mercedes then crashed into the deputy’s squad car, which in turn struck her.
The deputy fell over the guardrail after the crash.
The driver of the Mercedes failed to stop at the scene but was later apprehended near southbound I-35E and Harry Hines Boulevard.
The deputy was injured and was transported to Parkland Hospital, where her condition was stabilized.
The driver of the Mercedes is facing charges of DUI and fleeing the scene of an injury crash.

The information for this blog post was obtained from public media and is for informational purposes.  No attorney-client relationship is established unless the law firm is formally retained. We understand this is a difficult time for the family of those affected by a tragic accident, and we offer our sincere sympathies.  While the thought of hiring a law firm may not feel appropriate at this time, as a public service we like to advise that in some cases it may be important to immediately begin securing evidence (such as photos of skid marks and property damage) and witness statements before it’s too late.
