2 Injured in Multi-Vehicle Accident on U.S. 96 in Jasper County
Jasper County, Texas (January 23, 2018) – Two people were injured in a chain-reaction accident involving multiple vehicles on Tuesday morning in Jasper County, according to the Texas Department of Public Transportation.
The crash occurred at around 6:30 a.m. on U.S. Highway 96.
DPS said a school bus had been stopped and had its flashing lights on as students were getting in.
Several vehicles behind the bus were also stopped when the driver of a red 2005 dodge pickup, Joshua Morton, 28, of Weirgate, failed to control his speed and slammed into the back of a 2002 Chevrolet Tahoe being driven by a 41-year-old Louisiana woman.
The impact of the crash pushed the woman’s car into the back of a 2004 Dodge car being driven by a 52-year-old Hemphill man, which in turn rear-ended a 2014 Dodge Ram pickup truck driven by a 56-year-old Brookeland man.
None of the vehicles struck the school bus and no student was hurt.
The Hemphill man and the Louisiana woman were both transported to Jasper Memorial Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
No other injuries were reported.
Morton was issued a citation for failure to control speed to avoid a crash.
