Houston, Texas (September 15, 2017) – According to a police report, five people were injured after a four-car collision involving a Houston Fire Department ambulance in Gulf freeway Thursday morning
The wreck happened at about 4:30 a.m., Thursday, September 14, at the Scarsdale exit ramp near the beltway.
The chaos began after the first crash involving two cars blocked off part of the highway and the suspect in this first incident fled the scene on foot.
Approximately 10 minutes later, an HFD ambulance that was responding to the initial accident was struck by a silver Toyota Corolla, pushing the ambulance into the two already stalled vehicles.
The Corolla driver was pulled out of the wreckage and transported to Memorial Hermann with critical injuries.
Two paramedics and one of the drivers in the initial collision were sent to a hospital with minor injuries.
Several METRO bus routes were blocked as a result of the wreck. The wreck caused delays in several parts of the Metro bus routes since it shuttered southbound freeway, directing traffic at the Fuqua exit.
The mangled car was towed away from the incident scene.
The cause of the wreck remained unclear.
